Penny Egan CBE, Executive Director, US-UK Fulbright Commission said: “I know our 2016 cohort will do us great credit during their time here in the UK and beyond. Only exceptional scholars and students win Fulbright awards: one of the world’s most competitive merit-based international scholarships. In the 70th year of the ‘Special Relationship’ being coined by Winston Churchill, we are proud to welcome the best of American academia to the UK.”

The Commission selects scholars through a rigorous application and interview process. The focus of the selection process is not only on academic excellence but also on a solid application that demonstrates a range of extracurricular and community activities, ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Program and a plan to give back to the recipient’s home country upon returning.

This is the second Fulbright award to Professor Francia. His first Fulbright award was in Malta in 2006 where he lectured on cyber security topics at the University of Malta and Malta College of Arts and Sciences.
